
The St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department is currently investigating a fatal shooting that occurred yesterday in the Walnut Park West neighborhood, a crime which has added to the city's growing concern about gun violence.
According to a statement from the St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department, officers were alerted to gunfire in the vicinity of the 6000 blocks of Emma & Lucille Avenues through the ShotSpotter system shortly before 10 p.m., and a male victim related to the incident, 27 years old, was subsequently dropped off at a hospital with gunshot wounds and was later pronounced dead. The scene of the shooting was located by officers in the 5400 block of Park Lane, and as families across the city were settling into the night's calm, another household was suddenly having to confront an abyss of loss, the circumstances behind which remain under investigation.
The identity of the man has not been released pending notification of next of kin, and investigators are working to piece together what transpired that led to the shooting. No further information on potential suspects or motives has been provided by authorities at this time.
