Palm Beach Gardens is set to become a hub for ice sports enthusiasts by 2026 with construction underway on a new state-of-the-art indoor ice facility. The Palm Beach North Athletic Foundation has initiated the project, which promises to be the most affordable place in Florida for ice sports and aims to accommodate kids of varying backgrounds and budgets, as confirmed by Foundation President Mike Winter. Located conveniently beside a pickleball center, baseball complex, basketball courts, and a dog park, the facility will foster an inclusive sporting hub for families in Palm Beach Gardens, reports CBS12.

Thanks to sizable contributions from high-profile donors including Larry Robbins and the support of organizations like VoLo Foundation, the Hospital for Special Surgery, and NFP, the Palm Beach North Athletic Foundation secured the necessary funding, allowing them to meet their financial goals and break ground this July as stated in an article by Palm Beach Florida Weekly. The 123,000 square foot complex boasts two NHL-sized rinks and will host a variety of ice sports like youth and adult hockey, figure skating, curling, and sled hockey, in addition to retail, rental opportunities, concessions, and a restaurant.

"This is also an economic multiplier [for the area]... hotels in the area should benefit, restaurants [should benefit], and the real estate throughout the area," Winter said, highlighting the expected positive impact on the local economy, according to CBS12. The expectation is that the facility will not only create a sports nexus but also enhance the attractiveness for companies to bring and retain talented employees with ice-sport interests.

Adding to the facility's prestige is the support of NHL icon Wayne Gretzky who has thrown his weight behind the project, envisaging it to be the future venue for youth hockey initiatives such as the Gretzky Invitational and development camps run by the Gretzky Hockey School, programs essential to fostering growth and development in youth hockey since 2014; this element of endorsement and partnership was also detailed by Palm Beach Florida Weekly. The Palm Beach Gardens Ice Sports Facility, situated off Plant Drive Park, is envisaged by many as a transformative project that will both mold young athletes and serve the community at large with its inauguration pegged for December 2026.
