For over half a century, Camp Kota has become a summer fixture for kids seeking both sun and fun in Bloomington's outdoors, especially on the sandy stretches of Bush Lake Beach. Offering a plethora of activities that range from singing to archery, this immersive camp is set to once again open its doors to young adventurers this July.
Spread across four engaging sessions, Camp Kota aims to thoroughly entertain children entering the second through seventh grades. With summer quickly approaching, it's the perfect time for parents looking to ensure their kids can truly have a chance to bond, explore, and create lifelong memories in a safe and structured environment—a classic camp experience.
A distinct highlight of the experience is the Thursday evening tradition where campers are treated to a good old-fashioned overnight campout, complete with a family-themed sing-along and picnic. "Camp Kota has been such an influential part of my life, and it’s an honor to contribute to its tradition," Zoë Zarth, Camp Kota Coordinator, revealed in a statement. She has watched the camp grow, having evolved from camper to Junior Counselor and Counselor, before finally helming the camp for her fourth summer in charge. Her enthusiasm for the program's positive impact on youth shines through as she reflects on her journey with Camp Kota.
While a Camp Kota session might admittedly set back parents $300 for residents or $365 for non-residents, the investment promises to provide a nurturing and joy-packed environment for children. Registrations are currently open for kids who want to passionately jump right into a variety of summer activities. Camp sessions are scheduled from July 7 through August 1, running Monday to Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.
