In a brazen daylight attempt, suspects used a stolen vehicle to ram into a jewelry store on East El Camino Real in Sunnyvale, sparking a police response yesterday. The Sunnyvale Department of Public Safety officers arrived on the scene at approximately 3:12 PM after receiving reports of an in-progress robbery, as detailed in a bulletin from the department.
The quick action of armed store employees appears to have thwarted the robbery. When confronted by the employees, the suspects abandoned their plans and fled. Despite the violence of their attempted break-in, the store, its workers, and bystanders remained unscathed. "No shots were fired, no items or cash were taken, and fortunately, no injuries were reported," explained a statement from Sunnyvale DPS, per the City of Sunnyvale. Found at the scene was the vehicle used to ram the building, which was also reported stolen.
Law enforcement located one of the getaway vehicles abandoned in Sunnyvale shortly after the incident. However, the suspects remain at large, leaving a veil of unease on the community. The investigation continues as detectives piece together the events and chase down leads. Detective E. Rosette of the Sunnyvale DPS is leading the charge and has requested that anyone with information come forward to aid the investigation.
