A man suspected in the fatal shooting of another man in Galveston was apprehended today, according to the Goliad County Sheriff's Office. The suspect now awaits trial, having been captured approximately 12 hours following the early morning altercation. Click2Houston had earlier reported that the Galveston police had responded to a shooting call around 3 a.m. in the 1000 block of 44th Street, where they discovered a man with multiple gunshot wounds; he was declared dead at the scene.
Further details emerged when Galveston Police Chief Douglas Balli shared via a social post the series of events leading up to the shooting; it involved the two men arriving at a gas station on the corner of 45th Street and Broadway, entering the store together and later, the victim fleeing the vehicle, pursued and subsequently shot by the suspect. Despite initial concerns after the suspect fled the scene, he was located, and the white Chevrolet truck was found in the Ander-Weser area before the arrest was made, as reported by KHOU.
The identity of the victim has been withheld, pending family notification, however, no further imminent threat to the public has been suggested as investigators believe this was an isolated incident, Balli affirmed in his statement. Authorities continued to piece together the motive behind the dispute which led to the deadly encounter, and while the suspect has been apprehended details about the altercation remain scarce.
