The Morgan Hill community was hit hard with the recent news of the arrest made in connection to the death of Marissa DiNapoli, an 18-year-old whose body was discovered near Anderson Lake. The Morgan Hill Police Department announced that Martin Mendoza is being charged with murder under Penal Code 187. Mendoza was arrested at the California-Mexico Border Crossing after DiNapoli was reported missing last Monday and was found deceased shortly after, as reported by the Morgan Hill Police Department.
Police identified Mendoza as a person of interest early on, having last been spotted with DiNapoli on surveillance footage, as confirmed by both CBS News San Francisco and NBC Bay Area. According to Hoodline, extensive investigative efforts were made to locate Mendoza, including a search of his home for any potentially relevant evidence. Officials were desperately seeking to gather evidence, and the community was sought out to aid in these efforts.
The collective effort involving over 30 investigators and multiple enforcement agencies signifies the gravity of the situation and the community's dedication to finding justice for DiNapoli. The Morgan Hill Police Department extended its gratitude to a long list of partner agencies, including the Santa Clara County District Attorney’s Office and the Federal Bureau of Investigation, for their work in apprehending Mendoza.
