A tragic incident unfolded in the idyllic setting of Harbour Island in the Bahamas, where a young stewardess was found dead aboard a luxury superyacht. As reported by Local 10 News, 20-year-old South African Paige Bell of Johannesburg was discovered with visible injuries in the vessel's engine room on July 3. A 40-year-old Mexican national, also a crew member on the yacht, was found next to her with self-inflicted wounds.
Bell had been reported missing briefly before the grim discovery, and the yacht later docked in Fort Lauderdale was where the suspect was taken into custody after his arrest, Local 10 News learned that former crew members are rallying behind Bell's family, setting up a GoFundMe page to support them with travel expenses as Bell was weeks shy of turning 21; meanwhile, the Royal Bahamas Police continue to investigate the motive behind this incident, looking into onboard camera footage and other evidence.
Court documents cited by Fox News Digital identified the accused as Brigido Muñoz, an engineer on the yacht, who was charged with murder and denied bail, with a court appearance set for November 20. Following the tragedy, the victim's family expressed profound grief, and her sister Chelsey, in a heartfelt Facebook post, asserted their commitment, "This evening, Mom and Dad... are flying to the Bahamas to begin the painful process of not only bringing their baby girl home, but also seeking justice for the monster that took her life."
A collective mourning gesture reflecting the impact of this loss on the yachting community, a fundraiser set up to assist the Bell family surpassed its goal, raising over $42,000, as revealed by Fox News Digital; it's a testament to the friends and colleagues who remembered "Paigey" fondly, honoring her memory with her favorite red velvet cake on Monday, which would have been her 21st birthday, the investigation into her murder remains active whilst authorities have yet to disclose a clear motive.
