Two men sustained non-life-threatening injuries following a late night drive-by shooting in Laveen Village, Phoenix. Phoenix Police arrived at the scene near 35th and Southern Avenues shortly before 10 p.m. on Monday, after receiving reports of a shooting. According to FOX 10 Phoenix, the authorities found the victims and learned that "a known suspect had driven by and shot at both victims striking them before driving away," stated Sgt. Brian Bower.
The pursuit of the suspect concluded in a more dramatic fashion, with police locating the suspect's vehicle, which led to a chase. Eventually, police were able to disable the vehicle, which brought the pursuit to an end. Following the dispute, "It was at this time the suspect turned the gun on himself and shot," Sgt. Bower said in a statement obtained by FOX 10 Phoenix. The suspect was apprehended with a self-inflicted gunshot wound and is expected to be booked into jail once released from the hospital.
The identities of those involved have not been released, and the motive behind the shooting remains uncertain. AZFamily reports that the suspect was taken into custody after a brief pursuit in downtown Phoenix, near 1st Avenue and Lincoln Street. Following the arrest, the suspect received treatment for a gunshot injury that was self-inflicted.
