A series of early morning events in Madisonville led to an intense police chase and the arrest of an individual with a history of felony offenses. Robert Cody Martin has been charged with kidnapping after he allegedly commandeered a vehicle with three people inside. The incident began near the Checkered Flag Market in Madisonville, confirmed by the Madisonville Police Department (MPD).
The police pursuit ensued when officers spotted the stolen vehicle traveling at high speeds along Highway 411. Following a brief chase, Martin was apprehended. Despite the potentially perilous situation, all three victims were found safe, an outcome for which the local community breathes a collective sigh of relief. As per WVLT, the MPD detailed that Martin's felony criminal background includes robbery.
Martin now faces serious charges, including three counts of kidnapping, felony evading arrest, and resisting arrest. According to details released by MPD, the kidnapping incident reportedly took place in Blount County, where Martin seized the vehicle while the owner executed repairs at a local business off Highway 411.
After the arrest, Martin is being held without bail at the Monroe County Justice Center. The MPD expressed gratitude towards the Blount County and Monroe County Sheriff’s Offices for their assistance in this investigation, a sentiment relayed by a report from WATE. Acknowledging the situation's gravity, the MPD reassured the public in a release cited by WBIR, stating, "Fortunately, the three victims were found safe and did not require medical attention."
