An investigation is currently underway following a tragic incident on I-70 where a teenage girl was killed and another teen was injured in a rollover crash. The accident occurred yesterday morning, according to a press release by the St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department. The report details a Ford Explorer, piloted by a 17-year-old male, losing control while trying to correct a mistaken exit approach.
The vehicle was eastbound on the interstate near Adelaide when the young driver attempted to merge back onto the freeway from an exit lane, resulting in the SUV rolling through the grassy median. It came to stop upside down on the interstate. Both the driver and his passenger, 17-year-old Samirah Simpson, were rushed to the hospital following the accident, where Simpson was later pronounced dead.
In an article published by local authorities, the traffic division specified that their Accident Reconstruction team has taken the lead in understanding the dynamics of the crash. The investigation is focused on piecing together the events that led up to this tragic outcome.
The driver, who has not been named, is in stable condition. The investigation is ongoing and aims to explain what happened. More details will be shared as the case continues.
