A tragic incident shook the St. Louis community on the morning of last Friday, when a 16-year-old boy was fatally shot in Walnut Park East neighborhood. The victim has been identified by the St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department as Elijah Hughes, a local resident.
According to official reports, the shooting took place just before 10:30 a.m. Near the intersection of Lillian and Beacon. District 6 officers, responding to the emergency call, found Hughes suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. Despite being swiftly transported to a hospital by EMS, the young man succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced deceased.
The preliminary investigation suggested that Hughes was riding his bike close to the intersection of Lillian and Genevieve when the shooting occurred. He then ran to Lillian and Beacon, which is where law enforcement officials discovered him. The St. Louis Police Department's Homicide Unit has taken charge of the case and is actively investigating the circumstances surrounding the tragic event.
