Three men have been charged in connection with a violent robbery in Shelby County, signaling a stark reminder of the persistent threat of criminal activity that plagues even the quietest corners of our communities. According to a post from the Shelby County District Attorney's Office, Said Awad, Ayed Khawaf, and Hmaida Saleh face serious charges after two out-of-state victims were subjected to a harrowing ordeal, one victim was pistol-whipped and assaulted, while another suffered a gunshot wound to the leg.
In a preliminary hearing held last Friday, the victims recounted their traumatic experiences, which led to all three suspects being bound over on robbery charges. Awad has additionally been charged with Aggravated Assault, a sign that the incident was not just a robbery but an encounter laced with potentially lethal violence.
Bonds were set for Saleh at $250,000, Khawaf at an even steeper $500,000, and Awad at $350,000, reflecting the perceived severity of their alleged crimes and the risk they may pose to the public.
