In a spate of gunfire disrupting the night, three individuals were left wounded following a chaos-riddled party on Hardy Avenue in Rome. According to FOX 5 Atlanta, it was around 2:15 a.m. when police officers, initially dispatched for crowd control at a party of about 100 attendees, were jolted by the sound of 7 to 8 gunshots as they withdrew from the scene; their retreat was cut short as they pivoted back to unearth the grim tally of violence.
Police involvement escalated with the unanticipated discovery of three shot individuals; two women were harmed in their legs, the third was found near Grover Street, specifics of their condition untold, Atlanta News First reported, the officers, thereafter, delivering aid until paramedics arrived to transport the injured for medical attention. The party's host, Marvin Blackburn turned combative, earning a slew of charges including felony and misdemeanor obstruction and simple battery on a police officer after police resorted to using a Taser to subdue him. Sammya Sewell was similarly arrested, facing a charge of misdemeanour obstruction after interfering with police attempts to secure the crime scene.
Another unrelated shooting, this one yielding no immediate injuries, unfolded at a back-to-school celebration on East 11th Street. Officers responding to the incident uncovered an array of personal items and a solitary rifle casing; their search for the assailant is engulfed in mystery, with no suspects yet divulged, detailed FOX 5 Atlanta.
"These types of incidents not only put lives at risk but also place an incredible burden on emergency resources," Kelly Madden, public information officer for the Rome Police Department, pressed the community conscience with a statement obtained by FOX 5 Atlanta.
