Tom and Pam Mischell are known in the Greater Cincinnati area not just for their enduring love story that began over five decades ago at the University of Cincinnati, but also for their unwavering commitment to the community. UC alumni Tom, Bus '70, and Pam, DAAP '71, met by happenstance when Tom needed a last-minute date for a concert after his original plans fell through. "I told my fraternity brother, ‘I don't care who you get, I spent $3 for these tickets, and I need a date for tonight,'" Tom recounted with a laugh in an article published by the University of Cincinnati. Since that fateful night, the Mischells have been inseparable, now celebrating 55 years of marriage.
But their story extends far beyond personal milestones. The Mischells are recognized as leaders and benefactors throughout Cincinnati, particularly noted for their involvement in various university initiatives. According to a recent release from the University of Cincinnati, their generosity has touched many corners of their alma mater, including UC Athletics and the UC College of Medicine, among others. Tom, in particular, has taken on numerous high-level volunteer leadership roles, including serving as a UC Trustee and a member of the UC Health Board of Directors.
UC President Neville Pinto highlighted the couple's impact on the institution and the broader community. "Pam and Tom Mischell exemplify a lifetime of compassionate leadership and dedicated service," Pinto said. "Together, they have advanced their alma mater with generosity and visions. Our community is better because of their kindness, their wisdom and their lasting impact," as mentioned in the University of Cincinnati's announcement.
The Mischells' philanthropic efforts underscore an enduring commitment to fostering progress within the region. Through their extensive work with the UC Cancer Center, the UC Gardner Neuroscience Institute, and other crucial institutions, they have demonstrated a model of giving back that has garnered appreciation from peers and aspiring leaders alike. Each initiative, each investment, and each decision to lend a hand encapsulate the ethos of what it means to serve, leading by example and creating a lasting legacy that will doubtless inspire future generations to follow in their footsteps.
