A man died in a boating accident on Norris Lake this past Saturday, adding to the number of water-related fatalities reported in Tennessee so far this year. WVLT reported that the 58-year-old victim, who was not wearing a life jacket, fell off the back of a wakeboard boat and was subsequently struck by the same vessel.
The Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency (TWRA), conveyed through WATE, informed the public that the distressing call came in just before 4:00 p.m., with officers arriving on the scene and locating the involved boat. Despite the swift response, no signs of the individual were observed at the surface during the search.
In a collaborative effort detailed by WBIR, a Remote Operated Vehicle (ROV) and divers from the Knox County Rescue Squad worked determinedly into the evening, ultimately recovering the man's body around 8:00 p.m. The incident became the fourteenth fatal boating accident in Tennessee this year, according to confirmation from the Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency (TWRA).
As investigations continue, the agency has withheld further details pending notification of next of kin.
