Two individuals face charges after a vehicle accident disrupted a Fourth of July parade in Dunwoody, leaving eight people injured, including children. The mishap occurred when 22-year-old Ruby Liversidge of Decatur and 23-year-old Finn Drummond of Alpharetta decided to switch drivers mid-parade – a move that ended with their vehicle striking a pedestrian and sending parade participants to the hospital.
According to FOX5 Atlanta, the incident went down around 10:13 a.m. at the crossroads of Mount Vernon Road and Dunwoody Village Parkway. Liversidge, who took the wheel as the Ford F-150 Lightning was still moving and in drive, accidentally pressed the accelerator. This caused the truck to surge forward and hit a 22-year-old woman. Four adults and four children sustained injuries, ranging from a broken orbital socket to a forehead laceration that needed stitches.
Although initially released, warrants for Drummond and Liversidge were issued following a comprehensive investigation by the Dunwoody Police. As reported by Atlanta News First, both suspects had been instructed to surrender at the DeKalb County Jail by the morning of July 7. Drummond is facing charges of reckless driving, and Liversidge gets additional charges for serious injury by vehicle in tandem with reckless driving.
"The male was originally driving, the female was the passenger and they made the switch to the opposite," Sgt. Michael Cheek of the Dunwoody Police Department told FOX5 Atlanta. Investigative efforts into the detaching trailer revealed that it was not secured with safety chains and was lacking a hitch pin, details that only heightened the gravity of that day's events.
None of the individuals injured in the Dunwoody parade incident remains in critical condition, according to police. The Dunwoody Police Department has confirmed that the investigation into the incident is now complete.
