Two juveniles in Worcester have been arrested following an incident where a cab driver was reportedly threatened with a gun after demanding payment from his passengers. In a social media post early this morning, the Worcester Police Department reported that the arrest of the two males, aged 14 and 16, occurred one day after the alleged armed robbery attempt on the evening of Independence Day.
The Worcester police stated they were called to Uxbridge Street around 5:27 PM on July 4, following a confrontation between a cab driver and his passengers. The driver, who was unharmed during the incident, recounted how he had picked up the two young males at the corner of Gardner and Main Streets. After reaching their destination at Uxbridge Street and Green Hill Parkway, the situation escalated when the males refused to pay and one brandished a firearm, holding it up to the back of the driver's seat. The youths then fled on foot down Green Hill Parkway, according to the Worcester Police Department's post.
Efforts to locate the suspects concluded on July 5, when both were taken into custody and are now facing charges. The individuals, whose names have not been released due to their juvenile status, have been charged with Armed Assault to Rob and Evading a Taxi Fare. Details on the investigation that led to their arrest have not been disclosed.
