Tragedy struck a Knoxville community Tuesday night when a drive-by shooting on Minnesota Avenue left two juveniles injured. According to a report by the Knoxville Police Department, officers were dispatched to an apartment complex on the 1900 block of Minnesota Avenue shortly before 9 p.m. on July 29, 2025, in response to a shooting.
Upon their arrival, the police found two young males with gunshot wounds. One of the victims was reported in critical condition, while the other was stabilized with injuries believed to be non-life-threatening. These details were released in a statement obtained by the Knoxville Police Department, shedding light on the violent episode that pierced the night in the Lonsdale Homes community.
Witnesses at the scene described a black SUV from which the shots were fired. Surveillance footage confirmed these accounts and played a crucial role in identifying a suspect. Knoxville authorities tracked down the SUV to a registered address, leading to the detention of a 17-year-old male who, according to officials, was driving the vehicle during the incident.
Investigators charged the teen suspect with three counts of attempted first-degree murder and five counts of reckless endangerment, marking a swift response by law enforcement officials to the brazen act of violence. The suspect's connection to the event was confirmed after questioning, and the charges were levied via juvenile petitions. As the Knoxville Police Department's Homicide Unit continues its investigation, the community grapples with the aftershocks of the shooting and an all-too-common narrative of youth entangled in acts of senseless aggression.
