Two men were taken into custody in San Mateo following a reported road rage incident involving a knife. San Mateo Police Department arrived at the scene near S Railroad Ave and Birch Ave on Monday after receiving a call about the altercation at 10:53 a.m. The suspects, identified as Ramiro Antonfrancisco and Willy Gomezperez, both 21 years old and San Mateo residents, were detained shortly after officers reached the location, the department revealed on their social media page.
According to the details provided by the San Mateo Police Department, a volatile situation escalated when Antonfrancisco allegedly wielded a sharp object at two people during an argument. The sparring did not end there; both suspects purportedly attempted to strike one of the victims with their fists. This account was pieced together from statements given by the victims and witnesses, as well as footage retrieved from independent surveillance sources.
The evidence gathered led to the establishment of probable cause, and both Antonfrancisco and Gomezperez were arrested for assault with a deadly weapon and conspiracy to commit a crime. Following the incident, they were booked into the San Mateo County Jail, facing serious criminal charges. Antonfrancisco has been charged with PC 245 (a) (1) for assault with a deadly weapon not a firearm, and PC 182 (A) (1) for conspiracy to commit a crime, as has Gomezperez.
In an ongoing effort to maintain public safety and curb such violent occurrences, the San Mateo Police Department urges community members to remain vigilant and to report any crimes or suspicious activities they witness. “We ask our community members to stay alert. We need community support in reporting crimes and suspicious activities,” the department's statement conveyed, encouraging residents with the reminder, "Trust your instincts. See Something, Say Something."
