Early this morning, two teenagers were detained by Central Precinct officers for their alleged involvement in the downtown robbery of a 23-year-old Indiana man. The individuals, Jamerius D. Daniels, aged 16, and Darius McGill, aged 17, are expected to face charges including aggravated robbery and curfew violation, as they currently await further proceedings in juvenile detention.
According to the official Nashville government website, the apprehension occurred after officers spotted the pair near the intersection of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard and Representative John Lewis Way, their choice of route perhaps an inadvertent contrast to the historical figures' legacies of nonviolence and justice. Their arrest was made shortly after the robbery reportedly took place around 2nd Avenue and Broadway, roughly during the predawn emptiness of the 3 a.m. hour.
The victim's experience was particularly harrowing as recounted. He reportedly claimed the teens forced him at what he perceived to be gunpoint to withdraw $200 from a nearby ATM. After successfully extracting the cash and seizing his cellphone, Daniels and McGill allegedly fled the scene, disappearing into the anonymity of the night until law enforcement's intervention.
Upon their arrest, officers found three cellphones on McGill, including one confirmed to belong to the victim. Daniels was found carrying $1,570 in cash. These pieces of evidence will be considered as the case moves through the court system, where the circumstances will be evaluated and a jury will determine their outcomes.
