As summer events converge with infrastructural updates, the Utah Department of Transportation (UDOT) is advising motorists planning to travel through Parleys Canyon to Park City this weekend to consider their itineraries with care. The usual route is set to face significant disruptions due to a paving project that coincides with the Deer Valley Musical Festival and Concerts on the Slopes, popular draws for locals and tourists alike seeking respite in the Wasatch Back's alpine allure.
According to UDOT, Interstate 80 will be constrained to a single lane in both directions during the evenings of July 25 and 26, specifically between the mouth of the canyon and Mountain Dell Reservoir at Exits 131-134. To potentially avoid the thick of traffic, eastbound lane restrictions are expected to begin as early as 7 p.m., with westbound constrictions following suit by 10:30 p.m. each night. Navigating this bottleneck is an invitation to exercise patience or, preferably, to seek out other paths.
The department has suggested detouring through Provo Canyon or using Interstate 84 as viable alternatives. For those adamant about punctuality or preserving their weekend tranquility, heed UDOT's words as captured by a recent statement: "We know construction isn't easy, and want everyone to enjoy their time off and have a relaxing weekend," said UDOT Traveler Information Director Becky Parker. "So plan, leave early or take the alternate routes so that you don't feel rushed or stressed while driving up to Park City."
