Two former stars of the Utah Ski Team, Joe Davies and Kaja Norbye, have recently landed College Sports Communicators Academic All-America accolades. As reported by Utah Utes, the pair continued to blend athletic excellence with academic achievement.
Davies snagged a spot on the second team, marking his second consecutive year as an honoree—he was a third-team recipient in 2024. Norbye, who has paralleled Davies in consistency, was named on the third team, duplicating her placement from the year prior. An emerging figure in the ski world, Davies transferred from Alaska Fairbanks before the 2024 season and subsequently unleashed a flurry of impressive performances: 11 podium finishes and four wins in just 14 starts.
As for Norbye, the Oslo native wrapped up her finance Master's this past May and left an indelible mark on alpine skiing at Utah. She amassed 18 podiums and four victories across a prolific 48 starts. Both athletes contributed to Utah's storied run in the NCAA, with Norbye being a part of three national championship teams and Davies helping net the university's 17th all-time team title with his 20K freestyle mass start triumph.
The awards represent more than just personal milestones; they signify Utah Ski Team's ability to foster a rigorously balanced program of sport and scholarship. The university's roll call of Academic All-America honorees now stands at 23 (12 men, 11 women), and Utah's consistency is not to be understated, with at least one athlete recognized in four straight seasons.
