Maricopa residents might soon see an expansion in their local shopping options as Walmart is set to potentially enlarge its current facility to accommodate the growing demand for online grocery pickups. Kristen Spillman, representing BRR Architecture, has filed a Development Review Permit (DRP) Request on behalf of the retail giant for a significant addition to the east side of the existing Walmart structure. This addition is projected to span approximately 5,598 square feet.

According to public notice DRP25-06, issued by the City of Maricopa, the retail expansion aims to better serve customers who are increasingly looking to quickly and efficiently pick up their online grocery orders. The request will be reviewed during a meeting of the Planning and Zoning Commission, which is slated to occur on July 28, 2025, at 6:00 p.m. in the Council Chambers at City Hall, located at 39700 W. Civic Center Plaza, Maricopa, AZ 85138. This information was released in a statement through the city's official website.

Community members with questions or who are seeking to obtain more details regarding the Walmart expansion can reach out to LaRee Mason, Associate Planner, by dialing 520-316-6928. Alternatively, emails can be addressed to [email protected], and interested parties should include "Walmart Expansion" in the subject line of their correspondence.

The planning commission meeting is open to the public, and citizens are encouraged to attend and share their viewpoints on the proposed development.
