Motorists in Warren County should brace for some route changes as culvert installation commences along Veterans Memorial Parkway. According to the Missouri Department of Transportation (MoDOT), this work is part of the larger Improve I-70 Warrenton to Wentzville Project, which kicked off earlier this month.
The installation set for July 28 will mandate a temporary closure of Veterans Memorial Parkway between Stracks Church Road and The Scotts Company entrance. Roads are expected to close from 7:00 PM until 7:00 AM the following day. After which, there will, be a one-lane closure with flaggers present to manage traffic as the crew wraps up the culvert placement. During the interruption, drivers are advised to take the North Outer Road as a detour.
The Improve I-70 initiative is not a modest venture—spawning from Warrenton to Wentzville, this is but the second slice of MoDOT's Statewide Improve I-70 Program. A third lane for travel in both directions is on the blueprint, a much-needed augmentation on this stretch, which implies not just convenience but capacity.
Missouri's FY2024 budget includes $2.8 billion in General Revenue to develop a third lane on I-70, covering nearly 200 miles from Blue Springs to Wentzville. The project includes planning, design, construction, and rehabilitation. It also uses funding from the Improve I-70 program, additional General Revenue approved by lawmakers, and earlier state funds for I-70 and I-64, with a total contract value of $600 million.
Drivers should expect possible delays and detours during construction and are advised to stay updated on traffic changes.
