Washington County's Sheriff’s Office Search and Rescue program (SAR), which has been in dire need of a new transport van, received some good news earlier this year. Concerns had risen as the program's existing van had aged past its prime – a senior machine clocking in at 25 years. The price tag to procure a replacement vehicle stood at $70,000, a sum that was not factored into the core budget. The program coordinators, in search of funding solutions, sought assistance from the Washington County Sheriff's Office Foundation.
According to a recent publication by the Washington County Sheriff's Office, lacking the necessary funds for larger items can be an arduous hurdle for public departments like SAR. In this context, the Foundation extends its support to ensure that such crucial services remain uninterrupted. They are the sole entity sanctioned to raise finances on behalf of the Sheriff's Office. Bonnie, the Foundation president, expressed the organization's commitment to backing vital causes, "The Sheriff’s Office Foundation was thrilled to support such an important cause, and believes wholeheartedly in the mission that Search and Rescue brings to Washington County, and the surrounding communities they serve."
Recognition for the Foundation's efforts also comes from the top, with Sheriff Massey lauding the organization's contribution to both the safety of the community and the officers serving it. "I am extremely grateful for the resources that the Washington County Sheriff's Office Foundation provides to ensure deputies are best able to keep community members and themselves safe," he told the Washington County Sheriff's Office. He further emphasized the significance of the Foundation's work in supporting programs that face the conundrum of restricted funding avenues.
