Motorists traveling on I-55 through St. John and Tangipahoa Parishes this weekend may need to plan for minor delays. A moving operation is scheduled to trim trees along the interstate's shoulders. According to the Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development (DOTD), the work will take place from the US 51 Overpass (Exit 23) to the Laplace Exit (Exit 1) on Saturday, July 12 and Sunday, July 13, from 6 am until 7 pm, provided the weather plays nice.
Keeping both lanes open, the DOTD has advised that the right/outside shoulders of the northbound and southbound stretches will be subject to this activity. Motorists should be vigilant, as the work crews and their equipment will be close to the flowing traffic. The DOTD said, "Drive with caution through the construction site and be on the lookout for work crews and their equipment."
For drivers looking to avoid any potential inconveniences, the DOTD has suggested a detour. Motorists may use the US 51 Service Rd. (Low Rd.) during these hours to steer clear of the work zone. There are no restrictions for oversized loads, as per the DOTD announcement.
