West Homestead's local favorite, Nancy B's Bakery, has temporarily shut its doors following an unforeseen incident that resulted in the collapse of the fire escape. According to a report by Audacy, the incident occurred yesterday and caused substantial damage directly above the bakery's sole entrance, necessitating a temporary shutdown for safety reasons. Bakery owner Michael Runco emphasized the urgency of the closure, as there is only one entrance to the establishment.
Despite the setback, Runco appears to try to handle the situation positively. "There’s only one entrance and the damage are right above that entrance," Runco stated, as per Audacy. He aims to use the downtime to provide his employees with a vacation. Furthermore, he mentioned his gratitude for missing a potentially calamitous conflict with the busy wedding season, citing, "Last week I have 17 weddings, if it was this Friday, I don’t know what I would’ve done."
Additional information available on the bakery's Facebook page, revealed through a post obtained by WTAE, states, "As of today, July 3rd, we will be closed for vacation/repairs on the fire escape attached to our building until (tentatively) Monday, July 14th! PLEASE stay away next week from our entrance door and parking lot until everything is safe and repaired!" This caution seems to largely stem from ongoing safety concerns, as the bakery detailed. Pre-orders and business client engagements have been suspended to ensure customer safety while awaiting repairs.
