A Wexford County couple is facing serious charges related to the abuse of a minor in incidents dating back to 2023. According to Michigan Attorney General Dana Nessel's announcement, Christopher Allen and Wesley Ann Conner have both been arraigned on charges of felony child abuse in the 84th District Court in Cadillac. Allen, 33, of Reed City, and Conner, 21, of Leroy, are accused of committing severe physical abuses against Allen’s minor relative, a child under the age of two at the time of the alleged crimes.
Holding those responsible for harming children, Michigan's legal apparatus has drawn its long arm to the couple's doorstep. Allen was arraigned on one count of First-Degree Child Abuse, which carries a potential life sentence, coupled with two counts of Second-Degree Child Abuse, each a 10-year felony. According to the details of the couple's arraignment, his partner, Conner, faces two counts of Second-Degree Child Abuse along with one count of Third-Degree Child Abuse, the latter a 2-year felony.
In her statement on the matter, Attorney General Nessel condemned the abuse stating, "No child should ever have to endure abuse, especially at the hands of adults who are supposed to protect and care for them." Furthermore, she emphasized her office's dedication, asserting, "My office remains committed to holding accountable those who inflict such harm on some of our most vulnerable," as reported by the Attorney General's Office. The next court appearance for Allen and Conner is scheduled for July 15, where more details of the case are expected to come to light.
