An investigation is underway following a fatal stabbing that occurred Wednesday afternoon near a northwest Atlanta intersection. Officers were called to the scene shortly before 2:30 p.m. The police discovered a 53-year-old woman with stab wounds in the parking lot of Citi Package Beer and Wine, located at the intersection of Joseph E. Lowery Boulevard and Donald Lee Hollowell Parkway, according to a report by 11Alive.
The Atlanta Police Department swiftly responded, finding the victim critically injured with a stab wound to her leg. She was quickly taken to an area hospital, where she ultimately succumbed to her injuries. Details are still emerging, as police are yet to confirm how the argument that led to this tragic outcome started to initially escalate. In a statement obtained by FOX 5 Atlanta, store employees mentioned that two women were heard arguing loudly in the parking lot right before the incident, though the content of the dispute wasn't clear.
Witnesses described one of the women involved, reportedly a regular customer, as the alleged attacker who fled the scene before the law enforcement could arrive. However, the identity of both the victim and the suspected assailant remains undisclosed as the APD Homicide Unit continues their investigation into the events that transpired on that fateful afternoon.
The community is left grappling with the aftermath of this violent act as police work diligently to put together the pieces of this puzzle. Authorities have strongly encouraged anyone with information to come forward and aid in the investigation. Anyone with valuable insights is urged to call the Atlanta Police Department.
