The Yuba County Sheriff's Department has identified the person who drowned at Feather River on Independence Day as 16-year-old Nathan Drake of Marysville. The announcement was made on Tuesday. Nathan reportedly got into trouble in the water while trying to help or join a friend. According to the Yuba County Sheriff's Department on their Facebook page, the river's depth and strong current were believed to be factors.
Efforts to rescue Nathan began around 5:30 p.m. after a drowning was reported. The search involved several agencies, including the Sheriff's Boat Unit and Technical Rescue Team, Linda Fire Department, Yuba City Fire Department, Sutter County Sheriff's Office, Marysville Fire Department, and the Yuba Sutter Aero Squadron, which provided aerial support. The operation was paused after nightfall and continued the following day, as reported by Hoodline.
Last Saturday around 3:30 p.m., the Yuba County Sheriff's Office Technical Rescue Team recovered Nathan's body from about 17 feet of water. The Sheriff's Department reminded the public about the dangers of river currents and cold water, and advised wearing life vests and practicing water safety.
