Earlier yesterday, an 18-year-old was arrested after a shooting incident near the Indiana University Bloomington campus. WRTV reports that the shooting occurred around 2:45 a.m. at the intersection of 10th Street and Walnut Grove. The authorities have identified the suspect as Chaice Strickland, who police say fled the scene in a vehicle after the shooting took place.
After a quick response to the incident, officers found the victim with a gunshot wound to the leg. According to FOX 59, officers were able to locate and detain Strickland a short time after trying to leave the scene. She has been preliminarily charged with aggravated battery and criminal recklessness, which are considered Level 3 and Level 6 felonies, respectively.
The shooting prompted Indiana University officials to issue a shelter-in-place order, advising students and staff to avoid the area while the situation was being assessed. The victim was transported to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. WTHR disclosed that the victim's current condition is stable after receiving medical treatment.
While the full details and motivations behind the incident remain under investigation, both the suspect and the victim are reported to not be affiliated with Indiana University. Calling the incident an "isolated domestic incident," authorities have not indicated any ongoing threat to the people on campus.
