Community members and local supporters gathered at Sherman Park on Wednesday last week for the 9th Annual Change 4 Sylville Bookbag Drive, organized by Sedan Smith. Alderman DiAndre Jackson congratulated Smith and highlighted the event as an important occasion for District 7, as per a statement released by Alderman DiAndre Jackson.

The event provided free book bags to local youth along with food, music, horseback rides, and games. District 7 has supported the initiative for the past two years, during which it has grown into a larger community gathering.

Sponsors included local businesses such as Sentry on 92nd and Lisbon, Fresh Foods, Casablanca, BLOC, and others. Entertainment was provided by Local Rapper ATK LBALL and DJ WIGWAM. MPD Officers Thompson and Walker also joined in support of the event.

According to Alderman Jackson, the drive has become a tradition that helps students prepare for the school year while bringing families together. He thanked Smith and the sponsors for their contributions, noting that their efforts ensured resources were widely distributed and youth felt supported.

The bookbag drive served as both a school readiness initiative and a community event, emphasizing collaboration for the benefit of children.
