A tragic incident unfolded on a Linn County road earlier this month when a young driver died after his vehicle overturned. According to the Oregon State Police, 19-year-old Ryker Thomas Pittam of Albany was behind the wheel on Highway 20 when his attempt to avoid another car ended in disaster.

The crash, which occurred near milepost 4, happened at around 9:22 a.m. on Sunday, August 17. Investigations indicated that Pittam, driving a westbound Toyota 4Runner, swerved to avoid a vehicle that was also heading westbound and was turning into a driveway. The Toyota skidded, flipped over, and Pittam was ejected from the vehicle. "The preliminary investigation indicated a westbound Toyota 4Runner, operated by Ryker Thomas Pittam (19) of Albany, swerved to avoid another vehicle attempting to make a left turn into a driveway," the OSP reported.

Pittam received emergency medical attention and was transported to a nearby hospital. Despite the efforts of the medical team, he was later pronounced dead. The highway saw closures for an estimated two hours as authorities, including the Linn County Sheriff's Office and the Oregon Department of Transportation (ODOT), responded to the scene and conducted their investigation, as per the Oregon State Police.
