A former tire store in Antioch caught fire Tuesday evening, according to the Contra Costa County Fire Protection District. The blaze began around 7:14 PM and was first believed to be outside the building, but quickly spread, engulfing the structure when firefighters arrived.
Heavy smoke poured from the building as crews launched an aggressive attack. However, the intensity of the flames forced them to switch to a defensive strategy. A water supply was quickly established, but the fire’s strength led to a partial roof collapse, making the operation more challenging.
After an intense and protracted battle with the fire, crews were finally able to declare the fire knocked down about 70 minutes after they arrived at the scene, according to a social media post from the Contra Costa County Fire Protection District.
