The Avondale community has once again highlighted its burgeoning art scene with the latest Blank Canvas Summer Showcase & Art Expo. The City of Avondale, on August 14, transformed its City Hall into a vibrant gallery, exhibiting the works of talented young artists selected for this year’s competition. Sourced from the official Avondale website, the canvases stayed on display for all to see for an entire month, with the winners being determined by a voting process involving City of Avondale employees, which certainly must have been an exciting way to engage them in some civic art appreciation.

In the category for ages 5 to 8, Valentenya Castro took the top spot, followed by Jesus Castro and Estrella Reynolds. For the ages 9-12 group, Evelyn Vazquez took the win, with her possibly twin sister Evette Vazquez and Amariz Mollinedo close behind. The 13-17-year-olds saw Mya Sherman win first prize, alongside Nicole Candelaria and Corrine Smith.
