Bay Area residents woke up to a typical "Fogust" morning this Saturday, as overcast skies and coastal drizzle set the stage for a rather gray weekend. According to NWS San Francisco, the fog and light rain are remnants of a once-potent atmospheric river that drenched the Pacific Northwest but has since lost its punch upon reaching our latitude.
Outdoor plans might require a light jacket, as the NWS San Francisco reported a "Cloudy and drizzly morning with some slight rain chances along the coast." Despite the peak winds diminishing, a breezy day was on tap for the interior East Bay. There's a slight chance for showers further north in Napa and Sonoma counties as the front lingers into the evening, yet these showers are not expected to pack much impact for Saturday dwellers.
Sunday promises to be the coolest day of the upcoming period. Yet, by Monday, the area is forecast to initiate a subtle warming trend, kissing the lingering clouds of this weekend goodbye. For those who relish the heat, the NWS points to a ridge building into the work week that's likely to send interior temperatures soaring into the 100s by Thursday, with this hot spell potentially stretching into the following week.
The marine forecast isn't less eventful with the NWS San Francisco issuing a Small Craft Advisory due to "moderate to fresh northwesterly breezes with strong gusts." Mariners should take extra caution as conditions are slated to stay choppy through Tuesday. However, seas are anticipated to escalate further by Wednesday afternoon, especially for those navigating the outer waters. Small crafts are advised to prepare for even rougher conditions by that point.
