Carver County trail enthusiasts looking to bask in the splendors of the great outdoors might need to reroute their plans next week. According to the latest heads-up from Carver County Parks, two popular regional trails are getting a touch-up, hence will be off-limits to the public for a spell. The maintenance work is slated to start Aug. 18, so grab your maps and gear up for some detour action if these paths are on your itinerary.
The closures are hitting a pair of trails: the Lake Minnetonka Regional Trail in Victoria and the Minnesota River Bluffs Regional Trail through Chaska & Carver. For the Lake Minnetonka trail users, a 0.8-mile section is going under the knife. The section "between Kirk Lachen Park Natural Area and near Highway 5 (Arboretum Blvd) & 78th Street," as described on Carver County Parks' Facebook post, will be a no-go zone. Meanwhile, over at Minnesota River Bluffs, a stretch of 1.31 miles is set for a revamp – that’s the slice that connects Chaska and Carver.
Officials haven't coughed up the exact timeline for when these trails will be walkable, bikable, and runable again, but the promise is they'll be back in action once maintenance is complete. This vague timeline could mean a brief disruption or an extended inconvenience, so it might be best to concoct a Plan B that'll hold up for a bit.
For those of you plotting a new course, the Parks Department hasn't skimped on the details; they're urging those affected to plan an alternate route during this time. Wise advice – not just because you won't get very far on a closed trail, but because sneaking onto a work site is both dangerous and decidedly against the rules. Keep it safe, keep it smart, folks.
So while the trail closures might cramp your style for a hot minute, consider this a chance to explore new paths or revisit some old haunts. There's no shortage of tracks, paths, and byways begging for your boot prints in the Carver County area. Patience is a virtue, especially when it’s safety at stake, and at least there's fair warning to rejig those outdoorsy plans. Happy detouring!
