Attention Belle Chasse commuters and residents: it's time to get tech-savvy with your travel as the GeauxPass customer service team sets up shop for a two-day stint in your neighborhood. Scheduled for today, August 5, and tomorrow, August 6, these events are designed to introduce the community to their new tolling companion, the GeauxPass transponder system—courtesy of the Belle Chasse Bridge Replacement Project. If you're looking to avoid a snag in your daily drive, swing by the Plaquemines Parish Multi-Purpose Center located at 333 F. Edward Hebert Blvd. from noon to 6 p.m. on Tuesday, and from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Wednesday.
Touted by DOTD Sec. Glenn Ledet as vital for the community to "assist with tolling on the newly constructed bridge" these sessions are a golden opportunity for commuters to understand how the toll system works, register for a GeauxPass, and square away any concerns about the bridge that opened its tolling lanes early this summer on May 14. It's about getting ahead of the game, and according to a Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development announcement, Ledet also voiced appreciation for the "local legislative delegation and Plaquemines Parish for the coordination and collaboration to bring this two-day event to fruition."
For anyone still on the fence about joining the electronic tolling era, consider this your official nudge. GeauxPass is pushing for all regular bridge-users to get with the program, already active since mid-May; these service events are kind of like that neighborly hand ready to help you leap over the tech gap. Imagine unencumbered journeys across Belle Chasse, the wind in your hair, a transponder neatly tucked to your windshield—no more fishing for change or fumbling with receipts, the sort of seamless transition promised by a bridge designed for tomorrow but very much a part of today.
