
A tragic incident occurred Tuesday morning when a bicyclist was struck and killed by a semi-truck in Alcoa. The Alcoa Police Department reported that the collision took place on East Hunt Road, near North Wright Road, around 8 a.m. According to WVLT, the semi-truck and the cyclist were traveling in the same direction at the time of the accident.
The cyclist, whose condition was initially described as critical, was administered CPR immediately after first responders arrived at the scene. Unfortunately, the cyclist succumbed to their injuries and was pronounced dead at the University of Tennessee Medical Center, as reported by WBIR.
While the investigation continues, the driver of the 18-wheel semi-truck was reported to be unharmed in the collision. The Alcoa Police Department has not provided further details about the cause of the crash, but mentioned, "Officers are continuing their investigation of the crash," and advised drivers to seek alternative routes while the investigation unfolds, as noted in the coverage by WATE.
