The City of Bloomington is hosting a Council Deliberation Session centered around housing discussions, and the community's voice is sought after. On Wednesday, September 10, at 6:30 pm, residents are encouraged to step into the chambers of local governance at the City Hall on 401 N. Morton Street, to have their say.
The invite, extended by the City of Bloomington Common Council, emphasizes that this will be an interactive dialogue, not a decision-making event. Interested parties will indulge in exchanges with Councilmembers, Planning, and Housing and Neighborhood Development staff, focusing on the residents' housing needs and their current housing situations, as the City of Bloomington reported.
Covering a gamut of living situations, the conversation will cover different strata of housing types, including the pressing issue of short-term rentals like Airbnb's, accessory dwelling units (ADUs), and the integration of varied housing options into areas zoned traditionally for single-family homes. The session is touted as one to benefit the city's housing market by potentially informing changes to the Unified Development Ordinance (UDO) in pursuit of creating more attainable housing.
According to the City of Bloomington announcement, "All experiences are valued as part of this conversation, across spectrums of tenant, landlord, or owner-occupant." Their collective voices are vital as the city council mulls over potential UDO amendments that reflect a growing and diversifying Bloomington.
The Council is openly seeking a broad swath of opinions and insights, welcoming experiences from those who have called Bloomington home for decades or just days. Each person's perspective is viewed as a key ingredient in painting a comprehensive picture of the housing landscape in Bloomington, as they navigate towards a cityscape that embraces and propels its residents into sustainable living situations.
