Yvette Drucker, a Boca Raton City Council member, has shifted her political ambitions from the Florida Senate to the race for Palm Beach County Clerk of Circuit Court and Comptroller. According to the Sun Sentinel, Drucker's move is seen as a strategic play, sidestepping a potential primary showdown with Democrat David Silvers and setting her sights on a role she believes aligns with her experience.
Drucker, who is concluding her term-limited tenure on the city council, explained her decision, stating, "I’ve dedicated my career to public service, building coalitions, managing budgets, and helping working families across Palm Beach County. I am proud of my reputation for common sense approaches to major issues, managing relationships across the political aisle, and working with partners across municipal bodies," in a statement obtained by the Florida Politics. Her campaign sees the clerk and comptroller's office as the most direct way to strengthen public trust and improve services for local residents.
The shift in Drucker's campaign comes on the heels of Gov. Ron DeSantis' appointment of Republican Mike Caruso to the recently vacated clerk and comptroller position, following Joe Abruzzo's resignation to become county administrator. Caruso, who himself is term-limited out of the Florida House, has affirmed his intention to run for the position in the upcoming 2026 election. This sets the stage for what could be a closely watched contest in a county that has seen a recent uptick in Republican electoral performances.
On her background, Yvette Drucker, the daughter of Cuban immigrants, boasts years in the private sector, working in compliance and strategic management for ADP TotalSource, before her transition to community service and politics, Yvette told Florida Politics. Her experience, she believes, equips her to follow in the fiscal footsteps of her predecessor, Joe Abruzzo, with goals to maintain Palm Beach County's strong investment practices.
With her campaign underway, Drucker's decision to forgo the Florida Senate race leaves Democrat David Silvers as the current front-runner in the District 26 seat.
