Bojangles, the North Carolina-based fast-food chain known for its fried chicken and biscuits, has announced its return to New York City after a decades-long absence. According to The New York Post, the first of 85 planned locations across New York and New Jersey will open in Brooklyn this winter. Bojangles CEO Jose Armario described the expansion as "a monumental moment, now that we’re entering the New York Metropolitan area again."

The effort to bring Bojangles back to the area aims not only to introduce Southern flavors but also to meet the demand for diverse culinary options. Construction has already begun on the East Flatbush location, with plans to open 19 additional sites across New York City within the next decade. As stated by Eater New York, the East Flatbush opening represents a commitment by the fast-food chain to the city’s food scene. The expansion is supported by Hashimi Holding Corporation and restaurant executive Habib Hashimi, who expressed confidence in the franchise’s growth potential.

Bojangles has recently undergone rapid expansion, extending its reach to the West Coast with plans to open 30 locations across Los Angeles County within six years. The chain currently operates over 800 locations in 21 states, offering popular items such as fried chicken and sweet tea. With this latest move into urban markets, Bojangles joins other Southern chains like Raising Cane’s, which opened its first New York location in Times Square in June 2023 and has continued to expand since then.

Habib Hashimi expressed enthusiasm about introducing a new flavor to New Yorkers, stating, "Bojangles has always stood out to me – from its delicious chicken, biscuits and breakfast to its incredible franchisee support system." He added to The New York Post, "I couldn’t be more proud to lead Bojangles’ growth in New York City. Our team has extensive experience running quick-service concepts across New York and Connecticut, and I’m confident residents will fall in love with the Southern flavors, hospitality and convenience Bojangles has to offer."

Bojangles, known for its history of reinvention, is focusing on establishing a presence in the northeastern US. As the first NYC location prepares to open in the coming months, Bojangles plans to expand its presence in the city’s dining scene, offering chicken, biscuits, and Southern hospitality to New Yorkers.
