Specifically, during the first half of September, riders of the Green Line's D Branch will need to adjust to a nine-day suspension of service from Riverside to Kenmore, as the agency continues its installment of the new Green Line Train Protection System (GLTPS) and carries out maintenance; the downtime is scheduled for September 3 – 11, and shuttle buses will bridge the gap, offering both local and express options, although there will be no service at Beaconsfield, and travelers heading to Reservoir are advised to instead consider the nearby Cleveland Circle on the C Branch that's a short distance away, less than a tenth of a mile.
Orange Line patrons will encounter weekend disruptions during September, due to signal upgrade work, with service between North Station and Forest Hills ceasing on the weekends of September 13 – 14 and September 27 – 28, plus additional adjustments at Jackson Square to enhance platform accessibility; with Jackson Square's service interruptions outlined for select days, shuttle buses and fare-free Commuter Rail alternatives will be offered as substitutes for the regular train service. Meanwhile, Blue Line operations between Bowdoin and Airport will be paused on the evening of September 19 through the weekend of September 20 – 21, as the MBTA tackles crucial improvements to drainage systems and other facilities, such as lighting and cable systems needed to safeguard against flooding, while pushing forward with modernization.
According to the MBTA's announcement, the Fitchburg Commuter Rail Line will also see interruptions between Fitchburg and Wachusett during mid-day periods for tie replacement, spanning from 7 AM to 5 PM for a nine-day period starting September 15 and also between North Station and Porter Square over the weekend of September 20 – 21 and on September 26 – 28, with shuttle buses acting as stand-ins for train service, guiding passengers to leverage existing subway services on the Red and Green lines for continued travel during these times, ensuring connectivity albeit with a bit extra travel time necessary to accommodate the adjustments.
