On Thursday, a theft in Weymouth resulted in more than just a stolen vehicle; two French bulldogs were also victimized but later rescued thanks to police efforts. The suspect, identified as Marcus Morse, 29, of Brockton, faces charges including larceny and animal cruelty, according to a social media post by the Weymouth Police Department. The announcement followed Morse's arrest and detailed the litany of charges against him, including larceny of a motor vehicle, unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle, and two counts each for receiving stolen property over $1200 and animal cruelty.
The events unfolded when officers responded to a call at a McDonald’s on Bridge Street, where a 2011 Nissan Frontier had been stolen while left unlocked with keys inside. In a turn of unfortunate events, the victim's two small French bulldogs were inside the vehicle at the time of the theft. By yesterday, detectives identified an online sales post for the stolen car, leading them to the address on Manley St., where they found the dogs inside the hot vehicle, and apprehended Morse.
Morse, who was booked with numerous offenses, is being held at the Weymouth Police station. His charges stem from this incident, as well as two outstanding warrants related to vehicle misuse and violation of an abuse prevention order. According to the Weymouth Police Department, he will face arraignment at Quincy District Court next Monday morning.
