Tragedy struck a small New Hampshire community over the weekend where a 67-year-old man was found dead in his home on Sawyer Hill Road in Canaan. Authorities, responding to a welfare check on Sunday evening, discovered William Colao, who had suffered fatal injuries. According to a statement from the New Hampshire Attorney General's office, obtained by Boston.com, Colao was found with what appeared to be a stab wound.
An autopsy later revealed that the deceased had sustained multiple stab wounds and a gunshot wound to the head, prompting officials to rule the death a homicide. Amid ongoing investigations by Canaan police, no arrests have been made as of yesterday afternoon, and determined in the autopsy, the AG's office assured, "there is no known threat to the general public at this time."
Canaan is a quiet town, home to approximately 3,800 people, situated in Grafton County roughly 20 miles east of the Vermont border. "An autopsy determined that Calao died of a gunshot wound to the head, in a homicide," the officials added, who was also had multiple stab wounds, as reported by NBC Boston.
