The City of Carmel is set to reveal the latest addition to its public art collection with the "Butterflies on the Monon" installation. Scheduled for unveiling next Friday at 1:30 p.m., the exhibit features new mosaic butterflies created by artist Nancy Keating. These will adorn the wall of Midtown Flats apartments along the Monon Greenway.
This vibrant project is a communal effort, stemming from Keating's local chip-in events which began in 2023. Since then, a total of 14 mosaics have brightened the path. According to a media advisory released by the City of Carmel, these installations serve not just as decoration but as a symbol of community involvement and togetherness. Mayor Sue Finkam will be present at the event alongside representatives from the Carmel Redevelopment Commission, Allied Solutions, MIBOR, the J.C. Hart Company, and naturally, Keating herself.
The art initiative has been made possible by several collaborators. Financial backing came from the MIBOR Community Impact Initiative Grant along with contributions from local businesses such as the J.C. Hart Company and Allied Solutions. Their partnership with the City of Carmel has proven fruitful, culminating in a series of artworks that enhances the urban landscape and engages its residents.
Interested individuals are encouraged to attend the unveiling at 591 Monon Blvd., located conveniently behind the Midtown Flats. This event signifies another step in Carmel's ongoing pursuit of fostering a culturally rich and visually stimulating environment. It's a notion of what community-driven projects can achieve, and serves as an inspiration for further creative developments in public spaces.
