A 38-year-old Chicago-area man finds himself entangled in the law's firm grip following a series of charges related to a drive-thru shooting incident at a suburban McDonald's. Bashkim Rockwell has been slapped with a felony count of aggravated discharge of a firearm, among other charges, authorities disclosed. This unfortunate saga unfolded late July 25, or so reports FOX 32 Chicago.
The scene, Mount Prospect's McDonald’s at 13 West Rand Road, turned harrowing near the witching hour of 1 a.m. when a dark-colored sedan allegedly operated by Rockwell attempted to converse with four teens parked at the drive-thru. The encounter took a dangerous turn with a gun pointed and a subsequent gunshot heard. All this, according to the teens' 911 call. No injuries were reported, NBC Chicago details.
Investigators found the Honda Pilot the teens had occupied bore damage on its front bumper, pointing to a brush with a bullet. Not far from the scene, a shell casing and other evidence seemed to spell out the morning's alarming events. Just minutes later, a nearby officer set his sights on a sedan that matched the reported vehicle's description, but when he tried initiating a traffic stop, the sedan fled, speeding through red lights and putting distance between itself and the pursuit. In the face of such heedlessness, the officers, with public safety in mind, opted to abandon the chase and apprehend Rockwell later. He was taken into custody on July 31.
Rockwell now faces a litany of charges, detailed by both NBC Chicago and FOX 32 Chicago, that include the aforementioned felony count of aggravated discharge of a firearm, two felony counts of aggravated fleeing and eluding police, a misdemeanor count of fleeing and eluding police, and another for speeding 35 mph or more over the lspeed imit. After his detention hearing held on August 2, Rockwell was ordered to remain in custody, pending his next court appearance scheduled for 9 a.m. on August 29 at the Rolling Meadows courthouse.
