A tense scenario unfolded yesterday after a car with a child inside was stolen from the parking lot of Heywood Hospital in Gardner, Massachusetts. According to 7NEWS, state police embarked on a massive search when it was reported that the suspect had taken the vehicle, soon after ordering the child to exit the car unharmed.
The drama continued as officials tracked the stolen car using the data from a cellphone located inside, leading them over Route 2 and onto Interstate 495 north. As the pursuit intensified, the suspect began to drive erratically, which led to police ceasing the chase, to avoid jeopardizing other motorists' safety. The abandoned vehicle was later found by Lowell police who enlisted an extensive search to locate the suspect, although their identity has been withheld.
Meanwhile, NBC Boston has reported that despite the ordeal, the child involved was unharmed and the car was found abandoned approximately 40 miles from the scene of the carjacking. Massachusetts State Police have squared down on identifying the suspect but have yet to make an arrest in connection with the incident.
