According to the Cincinnati Police Department, the crash took place on the 200 block of West 9th Street shortly after 1 p.m. with the motorcyclist reportedly having run a red light before striking a Honda Civic, as stated in a news release obtained by FOX19.
The 29-year-old motorcyclist, operating a 2022 Kawasaki ZX14R, was headed west on 9th Street and collided with the Honda Civic traveling south on Plum Street. The force of the crash pushed the Honda into two parked cars, which were unoccupied at the time, according to details provided by Cincinnati.com. The motorcycle's speed has been considered a potential factor contributing to the severity of the accident, though the motorcyclist did wear a helmet at the time of the collision. Meanwhile, the driver who got pushed into two parked cars nearby was confirmed to have been wearing a seatbelt by the police.
The Hamilton County Coroner's Office identified the deceased motorcyclist as 29-year-old Justin Piper, who succumbed to his injuries at the University of Cincinnati Medical Center, as confirmed by a press release mentioned on WCPO. The driver of the Honda Civic, a 54-year-old man, was also taken to UC Medical Center, sustaining non-life-threatening injuries in the crash.
