Last week, the community of Clarksville gathered at Crow Recreation Center to unveil a sign commemorating the legacy of local football hero Harry Galbreath, as reported by the City of Clarksville's official news release. Galbreath, born on January 1, 1965, and a graduate of Clarksville High School class of 1983, was renowned both for his athletic prowess in high school sports and for his subsequent nine-season career in the NFL, where he played for the Miami Dolphins, Green Bay Packers, and New York Jets.
Galbreath's journey began in the hallways of Clarksville High School, where he was a multi-sport athlete participating in wrestling and football, his high school commemorates his contributions with a Memory Rock, which the players rub for good luck before each game, and the school also recognizes the top lineman annually in his name. After his NFL tenure, Galbreath transitioned to coaching roles, first at Austin Peay State University and then at the University of Tennessee; his post-NFL life took him to Mobile, Alabama, where he joined CSX before his untimely demise in 2010.
In memory of Harry Galbreath's dedication to both sports and community, the newly installed "Home of Harry Galbreath" sign now marks a piece of Highway 76 near Exit 11 in Clarksville. The sign is a physical testament to the impact Galbreath had on his community, both as an athlete and as a coach, continuing his influence on future generations long after his passing.
